The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 43(2) and (6) of the Road Traffic Act 1972[^f00001] and now vested in him[^f00002], and of all other enabling powers, and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 199(2) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:

These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Tests) (Amendment) Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on 1st April 1988.

The Motor Vehicles (Tests) Regulations 1981[^f00003] are hereby amended so that in the regulations specified in column 1 of the Table below for the words specified in column 2 of that Table there are substituted the words specified in column 3 of the Table.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Motor Vehicles (Tests) Regulations 1981 so that:—
- (a) the fee payable for the examination of a vehicle Class VI is increased from £33 to £34.50 if the vehicle is constructed or adapted to carry more than 12 passengers, and from £23 to £24 in any other case. These increases apply in respect of an examination following an application under regulation 12 and to a re-test after an interval of more than 14 days;
- (b) the fee payable for the re-test of a Vehicle Class VI within 14 days of an examination following an application under regulation 12 is increased from £16.50 to £17 if the vehicle is constructed or adapted to carry more than 12 passengers and from £11.50 to £12 in any other case; and
- (c) the fee payable for the issue of a duplicated test certificate in the case of a vehicle in Class VI is increased from £7 to £7.50.
