The Unemployment Benefit (Disqualification Period) Order 1988

Made: 11th March 1988

Coming into force: 11th April 1988

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State for Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 20(1A) of the Social Security Act 1975[^f00002] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Unemployment Benefit (Disqualification Period) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 11th April 1988.

Alteration of period of disqualification

In section 20(1) of the Social Security Act 1975 (other disqualifications, etc)[^f00003] for the figure “13” there shall be substituted the figure “26”.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends section 20(1) of the Social Security Act 1975 to extend the maximum period of disqualification for receiving unemployment benefit from 13 weeks to 26 weeks in the circumstances specified in that section (voluntary unemployment etc).
