The Cubic Measures (Ballast and Agricultural Materials) (Amendment) Regulations 1988

The Secretary of State, in exercise of his powers under section 94(1) of, and paragraph 4 of Schedule 4 and paragraph 10 in Part III of Schedule 6 to, the Weights and Measures Act 1985[^f00001], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

These Regulations may be cited as the Cubic Measures (Ballast and Agricultural Materials) (Amendment) Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on 1st July 1988.

The Cubic Measures (Ballast and Agricultural Materials) Regulations 1978[^f00002] are hereby amended as follows —

• (a) in regulation 4(1), by deleting the figure and symbol “1 m²³” and substituting therefor the figure and symbol “10 m²³”; and

• (b) in regulation 6, by deleting subparagraph (b) of paragraph (2) and substituting therefor the following subparagraph —

(b) have its longer sides connected to the base by bevelled or curved sections (and the corners of the other sides reduced accordingly) provided that the effect is not to reduce the width of the base to less than three-quarters of the width at the top.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Cubic Measures (Ballast and Agricultural Materials) Regulations 1978 by —

• (a) increasing the maximum permitted size of brim measure from 1 cubic metre to 10 cubic metres (regulation 2(a)); and

• (b) permitting alternative cross-sectional shapes for measures other than brim measures or measures of an approved pattern (regulation 2(b)).
