The Merchant Shipping (Weighing of Goods Vehicles and other Cargo) (Application to non-UK Ships) Regulations 1989

Coming into force: 31st March 1989

Now therefore the Secretary of State, after consultation with the persons referred to in section 22(2) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1979, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 21(1)(c), (3) to (6) and section 22(1) of that Act, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Weighing of Goods Vehicles and other Cargo) (Application to non-UK Ships) Regulations 1989 and shall come into force on 31st March 1989.

The Merchant Shipping (Weighing of Goods Vehicles and other Cargo) Regulations 1988[^f00002] (which apply only to ro/ro passenger ships which are operating as ships of Class II or II(A) within the meaning of the Merchant Shipping (Passenger Ship Construction and Survey) Regulations 1984[^f00003] and are United Kingdom ships) shall apply also to ro/ro passenger ships which are operating as ships of those classes but which are not United Kingdom ships, while they are in a port in the United Kingdom.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations apply the requirements of the Merchant Shipping (Weighing of Goods Vehicles and other Cargo) Regulations 1988 to non-United Kingdom ro/ro passenger ships of Classes II and II(A) while they are in a port in the United Kingdom. (Those Regulations require the weighing of all road vehicles, except buses, and all non-vehicular items of cargo exceeding, in each case, 7.5 tonnes for all voyages on which passengers are carried.)
