The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (Amendment) Regulations 1990

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 15(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974[^f00001] (“the 1974 Act”) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf and for the purpose of giving effect without modifications to proposals submitted to him by the Health and Safety Commission under section 11(2)(d) of the 1974 Act after the carrying out by the said Commission of consultations in accordance with section 50(3) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:—

Citation, commencement and interpretation

• (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (Amendment) Regulations 1990 and shall come into force on 1st January 1991.

• (2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires, “the principal Regulations” means the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988[^f00002].

Amendment to the principal Regulations

For Schedule 1 to the principal Regulations there shall be substituted the Schedule set out in the Schedule to these Regulations.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

1 These Regulations amend the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988 (“the principal Regulations”) by substituting for Schedule 1 to the principal Regulations the Schedule set out in the Schedule to these Regulations. Schedule 1 specifies maximum exposure limits for certain substances which are hazardous to health.

2 The Schedule introduces new maximum exposure limits for benzene, acrylamide, and an additional maximum exposure limit for man made mineral fibres. Amendments are also made to the existing maximum exposure limits for ethylene dibromide, arsenic and its compounds and for rubber fume. One maximum exposure limit, that for 1-methoxy-2-propanol, has been removed from the Schedule.
