The Damages for Bereavement (Variation of Sum)(England and Wales) Order 1990

Coming into force: 1st April 1991
The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 1A(5) of the Fatal Accidents Act 1976[^f00001], hereby makes the following order:—

- (1) This Order may be cited as the Damages for Bereavement (Variation of Sum) (England and Wales) Order 1990.
- (2) This Order shall come into force on 1st April 1991, and shall apply only to causes of action which accrue on or after that date.

In section 1A(3) of the Fatal Accidents Act 1976, for the figure “£3,500” there shall be substituted the figure “£7,500”.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends section 1A(3) of the Fatal Accidents Act 1976 by increasing the sum which may be awarded as damages for bereavement in England and Wales from £3,500 to £7,500.
