The Magistrates' Courts (Witnesses' Addresses) Rules 1990

Made: 26th February 1990

Laid before Parliament: 6th March 1990

Coming into force: 2nd April 1990

The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the power conferred on him by section 144 of the Magistrates' Courts Act 1980[^f00001], after consultation with the Rule Committee appointed under the said section 144, hereby makes the following Rules:—

These Rules may be cited as the Magistrates' Courts (Witnesses' Addresses) Rules 1990 and shall come into force on 2nd April 1990.

• (1) In Form 13 in Schedule 2 to the Magistrates' Courts (Forms) Rules 1981[^f00002], the word “Address:” shall be omitted.

• (2) In Schedule 2 to Form 16 in the said Schedule the words “and address” shall be omitted in each place where they occur.

In rule 70(6) of the Magistrates' Courts Rules 1981[^f00003]the words “and address” shall be omitted

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Rules)

These Rules amend Forms 13 and 16 in Schedule 2 to the Magistrates' Courts (Forms) Rules 1981 by deleting the reference to a witness' address in a written witness statement, and amend rule 70(6) of the Magistrates' Courts Rules 1981 by deleting the reference to the reading aloud of a witness' address at committal proceedings.
