The Juvenile Courts (Constitution) (Amendment) Rules 1991

Coming into force: 14th October 1991
The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 144 of the Magistrates' Courts Act 1980[^f00001], after consultation with the Rule Committee appointed under the said section 144, hereby makes the following Rules:

- (1) These Rules may be cited as the Juvenile Courts (Constitution) (Amendment) Rules 1991 and shall come into force on 14th October 1991.
- (2) In these Rules “the principal Rules” means the Juvenile Courts (Constitution) Rules 1954[^f00002].

In rule 1 of the principal Rules—
- (a) in paragraph (2), the words “the number of” and the words “who have not attained the age of sixty-five years” shall be omitted; and
- (b) in paragraph (4), the words “and who has not attained the age of sixty-five years” shall be omitted.

In rule 2 of the principal Rules, the words “whether or not he has attained the age of sixty-five years” shall be omitted.

Rule 5 of the principal Rules shall be omitted.

In rule 7 of the principal Rules, the words “, subject to Rule 5 of these Rules,” shall be omitted.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Rules)
These Rules amend the Juvenile Courts (Constitution) Rules 1954 by removing the requirement that a justice be under the age of sixty-five years for membership of a juvenile court panel.
