The Secretary of State for Education and Science, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 1 and 2 of the Education (Fees and Awards) Act 1983[^f00001], hereby makes the following Regulations:–

Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Fees and Awards) (Amendment) Regulations 1991 and shall come into force on 17th April 1991.

Amendment

The Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations 1983[^f00002] shall be amended as follows–

(ii) (as respects any period prior to the unification of the Federal Republic of Germany) the former German Democratic Republic, and

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations 1983 so that residence in the former German Democratic Republic prior to the unification of the Federal Republic of Germany is treated as residence in the European Community.
