Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force the repeal of section 3 of the Federation of Malaya Independence Act 1957 and section 5 of the Malaysia Act 1963 by section 1 of the Statute Law (Repeals) Act 1989. The repealed provisions provided jurisdiction for the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in relation to appeals from Malaysia. The repeals are consequential on the abolition by Malaysian legislation of appeals to the Judicial Committee from courts in Malaysia.
