Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These regulations further amend the Motor Vehicles (Type Approval for Goods Vehicles) (Great Britain) Regulations 1982.
These amendments introduce new type approval requirements as to exhaust emissions for the vehicles to which the regulations apply, other than vehicles which are expressly exempted. The new type approval requirements are contained in the Council and Commission Directives specified in the second and third alternatives in item 2C in Schedule 1 to the regulations, the ECE Regulations specified in items 2D and 2E in that Schedule, the Council and Commission Directives specified in item 2F of that Schedule and in the Council Directive specified in item 2G of that Schedule. The requirements for three wheeled vehicles are specified in a new item 2H of that Schedule. Also, new provisions are made about the dates of the cessation of the requirements as to fuel and fuel input respectively specified in items 7 and 8 of Schedule 1 to the 1982 regulations as a result of the addition to that Schedule of new items 2F and 2G.
Regulation 4 amends the requirements of item 9 of Schedule 1 which were introduced by the Motor Vehicles (Type Approval for Goods Vehicles) (Great Britain) (Amendment) Regulations 1992 (S.I. 1992/25). The effect of the amendment is to correct the application of these regulations so as to apply to vehicles with a maximum gross weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes and to insert an application date.
Copies of the Council and Commission Directives and of the ECE Regulations referred to in the amendments to the regulations can be obtained from Her Majesty’s Stationery Office.
