Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend regulations 19 and 23B of the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1987.

From 14th August 1992 the fee for an ordinary driving test taken on a day other than a Saturday will be —

There is no increase in the fee for an ordinary test taken on a Saturday or for a court ordered extended test whenever taken.

With effect from 14th August 1992 the fee for a test in respect of the holder of or an applicant for a licence to drive a London cab will be increased from £21.50 to £23.50: see regulation 3(e).

From 1st January 1993 the Secretary of State, through the Driving Standards Agency, will be introducing a nationwide evening testing scheme. This service will be available in respect of ordinary driving tests taken in the week. The charge for such a test scheduled to start on or after 4.30pm will be the same as for a test taken on Saturday. (This is because the cost of a weekday evening test will be the same as the cost of a Saturday test.) Thus, the fee for an ordinary driving test taken on a weekday after 4.30pm will be —

Finally, from 14th August 1992 the charge for forms of certificates evidencing the successful completion of an approved training course for motorcyclists will be increased from £2.10 to £5.00 per form: see regulation 5.
