Made: 18th February 1993

Coming into force in accordance with Article 1(2)

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 17(2) and 233 of the said Act and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

  • (1) This Order may be cited as the Central Region (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1993.
  • (2) This Order shall come into force on 5th May 1994 provided that for the purpose of all proceedings preliminary or relating to an election to be held on or after that day the Order shall come into force on 10th October 1993.

Interpretation

In the Schedule to this Order —

  • (a) a reference to —
  • (i) an electoral division shall be construed as a reference to that electoral division as constituted in this Order;
  • (ii) a road, footpath, railway line, river, burn or canal shall, where the context so admits, be construed as the centre line of the feature concerned; and
  • (iii) the boundary or boundaries of a parish is to a line corresponding as nearly as may be to the line of the boundary or boundaries of the parish concerned as already published on Ordnance Survey Maps;
  • (b) the following abbreviations are used:—
  • “ED” for Electoral Division; and
  • “grid reference” for National Grid Reference as published on Ordnance Survey Maps;

Change of electoral arrangements

The existing electoral divisions of Central Region shall be abolished and the said Region shall be divided into thirty-five electoral divisions having the names, contents and boundaries set forth in the Schedule to this Order.

The boundaries of the electoral divisions constituted by this Order shall be defined and mered by Ordnance Survey.

Revocation

Without prejudice to its continuing in effect for the purposes of defining the electoral divisions prior to the coming into force of this Order, the Central Region (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1977[^f00002] is hereby revoked.

SCHEDULE — DESCRIPTIONS OF BOUNDARIES OF ELECTORAL DIVISIONS FOR CENTRAL REGION

Electoral Division 1: Claremont

Commencing on the southern boundary of Clackmannan District in the River Forth in line with the course of the old railway from Alloa through Rhind; then northeastward to and along the said railway to where it crosses the drain flowing southward from Alloa New Marshalling Yard; then continuing northeastward along the said drain and crossing the disused marshalling yard to the western boundary of the cricket ground; then continuing northeastward and northward along the western boundaries of the cricket ground, the Pleasure Grounds and Alloa Academy, to the southern and eastern boundaries of Arnsside to the northwestern continuation of Claremont; then eastward and southeastward along the said road to the rear boundaries of 114 Claremont; then generally in a northward direction along the rear boundaries of property in Gean Road as far as Tullibody Road; continuing northwestward along Tullibody Road to opposite the boundary of Blackmuir Wood; then northward to and along the said boundary to the field boundary at grid reference NS 8710 9489; then eastward along the said field boundary to and southward along the track at the eastern margin of Blackmuir Wood to the northern boundary of Gubber Hill; then generally southeastward along the northern and eastern boundaries of Gubber Hill, the northeastern boundary of Inglewood Eventide Home and the northern boundary of the adjoining woodland to a point in line with the western boundary of the housing development west of Clackmannan College; then southwestward to where the boundary meets the rear feu boundaries of Ashley Terrace; then southeastward along the feu boundaries to the rear feu boundary of 3 Forebraes; then northeastward along the feu boundary; then southeastward along the northern boundary of 9 Forebraes to the centre of the road; then generally northeastward and northward along the footpath and continuing along the western feus of 132 and 134 Nevis Crescent to the boundary of the said college and along that boundary to Branshill Road; then southeastward along Branshill Road to and southward along Parkhead Road to the southern boundary of Sunnyside Cemetery; then southeastward along the said boundary to and northward along the disused railway from Alloa to Dollar to a point in line with the southern boundary of the National Coal Board Works; then eastward and southeastward along the said boundary to and eastward along Argyll Street to Whins Road; then southwestward along Whins Road, Shillinghill, Mill Street and Bank Street to Bedford Place; then westward along Bedford Place to and southward along the lane at the rear of properties on the west side of Broad Street to Castle Street; then eastward along Castle Street to and southward along The Walk to The Shore; then southward along The Shore and its prolongation in a straight line to and generally westward and southward along the southern boundary of Clackmannan District to the point of commencement.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order gives effect to proposals made by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland for a change to electoral arrangements for the Central Region (the Region) as described in the Schedule to the Central Region (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1977 (the 1977 Order).

The effect of the proposals is to divide the Region into 35 electoral divisions as described in the Schedule to the Order.

The 1977 Order is revoked by this Order.
