Coming into force: 1st August 1994

Having made such arrangements for consultation on his proposals, pursuant to section 242(1) of the Education Act 1993[^f00001] as he considered appropriate, the Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 17 of the Education Reform Act 1988[^f00002], hereby makes the following Regulations:

These Regulations do not apply in relation to pupils who commenced the first year of the fourth key stage in 1993.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

These Regulations provide that the National Curriculum in Welsh (and Welsh Second Language) does not apply to a pupil in key stage 4 attending a school which is not a Welsh-speaking school until 1st August 1999, in the case of a pupil in the first year of that key stage, and 1st August 2000 in the case of a second year pupil. The Regulations do not affect pupils who commenced the first year of the fourth key stage in 1993.
