Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 22nd August 1994 section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 1993. Section 72 amends the Backing of Warrants (Republic of Ireland) Act 1965 so as to allow provision to be made, by order, for a statutory speciality rule to be introduced into the backing of warrants arrangements with the Republic of Ireland. The Backing of Warrants (Republic of Ireland) (Rule of Speciality) Order 1994 (S.I. 1994/1952), which comes into force on 22nd August 1994, introduces such a rule into those arrangements.
