The Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council Order 1994

At the Court of Saint James, the 24th day of February 1994 Present, The Counsellors of State in Council
Now therefore Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, being authorised by the said Letters Patent, and in pursuance of section 1(1) of the said Act are pleased, by and with the advice of Her Majesty’s Privy Council, on Her Majesty’s behalf to declare, and it is hereby declared, as follows:—

The Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council, whose objects are specified in the Schedule to this Order, is established as a Research Council for purposes of the Science and Technology Act 1965.

This Order may be cited as the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council Order 1994 and shall come into force on 1st April 1994.
SCHEDULE — OBJECTS OF THE PARTICLE PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY RESEARCH COUNCIL
to promote and support, by any means, high quality basic research and related post-graduate training in astronomy, planetary science and particle physics;
to advance knowledge and technology, and provide trained scientists and engineers, which have potential to contribute to the economic competitiveness of Our United Kingdom and the quality of life, through meeting the needs of users and beneficiaries (including the communications, electronic and other industries);
to provide advice on, and disseminate knowledge and promote public understanding of, astronomy, planetary science and particle physics.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order declares the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council to be established as a Research Council for the purposes of the Science and Technology Act 1965 and specifies the objects of the Council.
