The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980[^f00001] and now vested in him[^f00002], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf

This Order may be cited as the A61 Trunk Road (B6131 Bar Lane, Mapplewell to Barnsley/Wakefield Metropolitan Boundary) (Detrunking) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 21st June 1996.

In this Order—
- (i) “principal road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purpose of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State; and
- (ii) “the trunk road” means the A61 Trunk Road.

The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road from the date on which the Order comes into force.
THE SCHEDULE — LENGTH OF TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD
The length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between its junction with B6131 Bar Lane, Mapplewell (marked A on the plan) and the Barnsley/Wakefield Metropolitan Boundary (marked B on the plan) a total distance of approximately 1.9 kilometres all in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley. That length is shown by broad black dashes on the plan numbered HA10/YHNMD/27 marked “The A61 Trunk Road (B6131 Bar Lane, Mapplewell to Barnsley/Wakefield Metropolitan Boundary) (Detrunking) Order 1996”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR.
