The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980[^f00001] and now vested in him[^f00002], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:

This Order may be cited as the A57 Trunk Road (Rotherham/Sheffield Boundary to Swallownest Roundabout) (Detrunking) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 29th March 1996.

In this Order—

(i) “classified road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;

(ii) “the trunk road” means the A57 Trunk Road.

The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a classified road from the date on which the Order comes into force.

THE SCHEDULE — LENGTH OF THE TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD

The length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between the Rotherham/Sheffield Boundary at Woodhouse Mill marked A on the plan to the Chesterfield Road Roundabout at Swallownest marked B on the plan for a distance of 2.31 kilometres and is shown by broad black dashes on the plan numbered HA10 YHNMD 32, marked “The A57 Trunk Road (Rotherham/Sheffield Boundary to Swallownest Roundabout) (Detrunking) Order 1996”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, Great Minster House, Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR.
