The Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (No. 2) (Amendment) Order 1997
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 1, 32(2) and 83(2) of the Animal Health Act 1981[^f00001] and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:—
Title and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (No. 2) (Amendment) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 24th October 1997.
Amendment of the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (No. 2) Order 1996

- (1) The Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (No. 2) Order 1996[^f00002] shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions of this article.
- (2) In article 10(3)(a), for the words “a veterinary inspector” there shall be substituted the words “an inspector of the Minister or a veterinary inspector”.
- (3) In Form F in the Schedule to the Order for the words “a veterinary inspector” there shall be substituted the words “a veterinary inspector/inspector”.
- (4) In Form G in the Schedule to the Order:—
- (a) for the words “a veterinary inspector” there shall be substituted the words “a veterinary inspector/inspector”; and
- (b) for the words “Form E” there shall be substituted the words “Form F”.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (No. 2) Order 1996. The amendments provide that the Notices in Forms F and G relating to exposed animals (article 10(3) of the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (No. 2) Order 1996) may be served by veterinary inspectors or inspectors, as defined in the Animal Health Act 1981.
In continuing to make provision for the slaughter of animals exposed to the infection of BSE, the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (No. 2) Order 1996 as amended by this Order continues to implement in part Article 2 of Commission Decision 96/385/EC approving the plan for the eradication of bovine spongiform encephalopathy in the United Kingdom (OJ No. L151, 26.6.96, p. 39).
