The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) (Scotland) Order 1997

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by paragraph 20(1A) of Schedule 1 to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963[^f00001] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

• (1) This Order may be cited as the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) (Scotland) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 10th February 1997.

• (2) This Order extends to Scotland only.

Paragraph 20(1) (grant or renewal of permit or licence) of Schedule 1 (bookmakers' permits, betting agency permits and betting office licences) to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963[^f00002] shall be amended by the substitution, for sub-sub-paragraphs (a) to (e), of the following sub-sub-paragraphs:

(a) in the case of the grant of a bookmaker’s permit, £160; (b) in the case of the grant of a betting agency permit, £160; (c) in the case of the grant of a betting office licence, £125; (d) in the case of the renewal of a bookmaker’s permit or betting agency permit, £20; (e) in the case of the renewal of a betting office licence, £25;

The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) (Scotland) (No 2) Order 1991[^f00003] is hereby revoked.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order, which is made under paragraph 20(1A) of Schedule 1 to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963, increases, for Scotland, the various fees prescribed in paragraph 20(1) of that Schedule.

The fees were formerly: £133 for the grant of a bookmaker’s permit; £133 for the grant of a betting agency permit; £106 for the grant of a betting office licence; £16 for the renewal of a bookmaker’s or betting agency permit; and £20 for the renewal of a betting office licence.
