EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order appoints 9th September 2009 as the day on which certain provisions of the Medical Professions (Miscellaneous Amendments) Order 2008 (“the 2008 Order”) are to come into force. These provisions amend provisions introduced to the Medical Act 1983 by SI 2002/3135. They partly introduce to the Medical Act 1983 the system of licences to practise, which will require medical practitioners to hold a licence in order to practise medicine in the United Kingdom. Other provisions in relation to the licensing system were introduced to the Medical Act 1983 by SI 2002/3135 and 2006/1914. Information about the commencement of provisions of these Orders may be obtained from the Department of Health at Quarry House, Quarry Hill, Leeds LS2 7UE, or by contacting Stuart Griffiths by email (Stuart.Griffiths@dh.gsi.gov.uk).
