Accordingly, the Secretary of State makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 (Continuance in force of sections 1 to 9) Order 2009 and shall come into force on 11th March 2009.

Continuance in force of sections 1 to 9 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005

Sections 1 to 9 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 shall not expire in accordance with Article 2 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 (Continuance in force of sections 1 to 9) Order 2008[^f00002] but shall continue in force for a period of one year beginning with 11th March 2009.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order continues in force for a period of one year, beginning with 11th March 2009, sections 1 to 9 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005, which would otherwise expire at the end of 10th March 2009 pursuant to article 2 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 (Continuance in force of sections 1 to 9) Order 2008.

Sections 1 to 9 of that Act enable the Secretary of State to make a control order against an individual where the Secretary of State has reasonable grounds for suspecting that individual is or has been involved in terrorism-related activity and it is necessary to impose obligations on that individual for purposes connected with protecting members of the public from a risk of terrorism.
