The Police Authority and Metropolitan Police Authority (Amendment) Regulations 2010

Coming into force: 26th April 2010

In accordance with paragraph 6 of Schedule 2 to, and paragraph 6 of Schedule 2A to that Act, the Secretary of State has consulted with the Association of Police Authorities, persons whom he considers to represent the interests of county and district councils in England and county and county borough councils in Wales, the Metropolitan Police Authority, the Greater London Authority, persons whom he considers to represent the interests of London Boroughs, and such other persons as he saw fit.

Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Police Authority and Metropolitan Police Authority (Amendment) Regulations 2010 and shall come into force on 26th April 2010.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Police Authority Regulations 2008 (S.I. 2008/630) and the Metropolitan Police Authority Regulations 2008 (S.I. 2008/631) to provide that selection panels (which have the function of short-listing candidates for appointment as independent members of a police authority) may act with one fewer than their full complement of members if at least one week’s notice of the meeting in question has been given, if one member of the panel has died, or if a panel member has consented in writing to the other members acting in his absence. The Police Authority (Community Engagement and Membership) Regulations 2010 (S.I. 2010/421) reduced the number of members of selection panels to three (in the case of non-metropolitan police authorities) and four (in the case of the Metropolitan Police Authority) but omitted to make consequential changes to the numbers of members who could act without the full complement being present. These Regulations make such changes.
