The Offshore Installations (Safety Zones) (No.2) Order 2011

Coming into force: 22nd August 2011

The Secretary of State makes this Order — in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 22(1) and (2) of the Petroleum Act 1987[^f00001] (“the Act”); and for the purpose of giving effect to proposals submitted to him by the Health and Safety Executive under section 24(2A) of the Act.

Citation and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Offshore Installations (Safety Zones) (No.2) Order 2011 and comes into force on 22nd August 2011.

Establishment of safety zones

A safety zone is established around each installation specified in column 1 of the Schedule (being installations stationed in waters to which subsection (7) of section 21 of the Petroleum Act 1987 applies) having a radius of five hundred metres, as respects that installation, from the point which has the co-ordinates of latitude and longitude according to the World Geodetic System 1984[^f00002] specified in columns 2 and 3 of the Schedule.

In the Offshore Installations (Safety Zones) Order 2011[^f00003], in column 2 of the Schedule, in the entry for the latitude north co-ordinates of Kinnoull Towhead, for 58°14.23’ substitute 58°14.30’.

Amendment of the Offshore Installations (Safety Zones) Order 1997

In the Offshore Installations (Safety Zones) Order 1997[^f00004], in Schedule 1, omit the entry for Linnhe Protective Structure including its co-ordinates.

Amendment of the Offshore Installations (Safety Zones) (No 5) Order 2007

In the Offshore Installations (Safety Zones) (No 5) Order 2007[^f00005], in the Schedule, omit the entry for Tristan North West Subsea Production Well (49/29b-J) including its co-ordinates.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order establishes, under section 22 of the Petroleum Act 1987, a safety zone having a radius of 500 metres from the specified point, around each installation specified in the Schedule to this Order and stationed in waters to which section 21(7) of that Act applies (these include territorial waters and waters in areas designated under section 1(7) of the Continental Shelf Act 1964 (c.29)).

Vessels, which for this purpose include hovercraft, submersible apparatus and installations in transit, are prohibited from entering or remaining in a safety zone except with the consent of the Health and Safety Executive or in accordance with regulations made under section 23(1) of the Act (currently the Offshore Installations (Safety Zones) Regulations 1987 (S.I. 1987/1331)).

This Order removes two subsea safety zones and corrects the co-ordinates for another.
