Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order)
EXPLANATORY NOTE
As part of a wider review of the regional development framework, changes are being made to the administrative arrangements for delivering the Grant for Research and Development, which is a financial assistance scheme previously administered by the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) to support research and development projects, principally in the fields of science, engineering and technology.
Responsibility for the delivery of this function is being transferred from the RDAs to the Technology Strategy Board (TSB). This transfer is being completed in two stages with the relevant property, rights, liabilities and obligations moving first from the RDAs to the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills by way of a transfer scheme for each RDA under paragraph 1(2) of Schedule 3 to the Regional Development Agencies Act 1998. This Order completes the transfer by moving those property, rights, liabilities and obligations on to the TSB, although some material relating to closed grants will remain with the Secretary of State for archiving purposes.
An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
