The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10, 41 and 106 of the Highways Act 1980 [^f00001] and now vested in her [^f00002]:

This Order may be cited as the M54 Motorway (Junction 2 Improvements i54 Strategic Employment Area) (Trunk Roads) Order 2012 and shall come into force on 7th June 2012.

In this Order all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway; and

The new main road shall become a trunk road from the date when this Order comes into force.

The centre line of the new main road is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.

The Secretary of State directs as respects any part of a highway which crosses the route of any of the new main road that –

until, in either case, a date to be specified in a notice given by the Secretary of State to the highway authority for that highway. The date specified will not be later than the date on which the relevant route is opened for traffic.

The Secretary of State is authorised to construct the bridges specified in Schedule 2 to this Order as part of the new main road.

SCHEDULE 1 — ROUTE OF THE MAIN NEW ROAD

The route of the new main road is situated in the County of Staffordshire and is approximately 1700 metres in length. It replaces the existing slip roads leading from and to the M54 Motorway at Junction 2 and includes the new link roads and roundabouts to be built as part of the i54 Strategic Employment Area. Its route is shown between points A and E on the plan, including the new roundabouts given the letters B, C and D.

The bridges to be constructed are as follows:-

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This order authorises the Secretary of State to provide a new main road forming the access to and egress from the i54 Strategic Employment Area from and to Junction 2 of the M54. The new road, which will be known as the A449 Link Road, replaces the existing slip roads leading from and to the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the M54 which will be stopped up under the provisions of The M54 Motorway (Junction 2 Improvements i54 Strategic Employment Area) (Side Roads) Order 2012.

The order also authorises the construction of two new bridges to carry the new main road over the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal west of Junction 2 of the M54 Motorway.
