EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations revoke the European Communities (Iron and Steel Employees Re-adaptation Benefits Scheme) (No. 2) Regulations 1988 (S.I. 1988/538) (the “1988 Regulations”), the European Communities (Iron and Steel Employees Re-adaptation Benefits Scheme) (No. 2) (Scheme Termination) Regulations 1994 (S.I. 1994/141) (the “1994 Regulations”) and the European Communities (Iron and Steel Employees Re-adaptation Benefits Scheme) (No. 2) (Amendment) Regulations 1996 (S.I. 1996/3182) (the “1996 Regulations”). The 1988 Regulations, the 1994 Regulations and the 1996 Regulations relate to a scheme for the payment of benefits to certain steel workers. Subject to transitional provisions, the scheme was terminated by the 1994 Regulations. The 1996 Regulations amended the scheme, as continued in force under the transitional provisions. The 1988 Regulations, the 1994 Regulations and the 1996 Regulations no longer contain any relevant operative provisions and are revoked by these Regulations.

An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen. The Explanatory Memorandum is published with these Regulations on www.legislation.gov.uk.
