Coming into force: 16th May 2012

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 41 of the Highways Act 1980[^f00001] and now vested in her[^f00002] and[^f00003]:

This Order may be cited as the A1 Trunk Road (Elkesley Junctions Improvement) Order 2012 and shall come into force on 16th May 2012.

In this Order –

The slip roads shall become trunk roads from the date when this Order comes into force.

The centre line of each of the new trunk roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.

The Secretary of State directs as respects any part of a highway which crosses the route of any of the new trunk roads that –

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This order authorises the construction of two new two-way slip roads linking the A1 Trunk Road with side roads which the Secretary of State proposes to build under a separate Side Roads Order. The new slip roads will be trunk roads. Together, the new slip roads and the new side roads will constitute a grade-separated (two-level) junction the construction of which will enable the Secretary of State to close the existing A1 junctions at Jockey Lane / Cross Lane and High Street / Coalpit Lane.
