EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order provides a new scheme for the holding of the ordinary elections of councillors of all the wards in the Borough of Doncaster. It replaces the previous scheme for the ordinary elections of councillors by thirds. It also changes the year of election for parish councillors within the Borough.

Article 2 provides for whole council elections every four years starting in 2015. It also provides that subsequent elections will be held in 2017 and every fourth year after 2017. It deals with the retirement of existing councillors and the coming into office of newly elected councillors following the elections in 2015 and 2017.

The parishes within the Borough of Doncaster are to have parish council elections in 2015, with subsequent parish council elections held in 2021 and every fourth year thereafter, so that they take place in the same year as borough elections.

Article 4 revokes article 4 of the Borough of Doncaster (Electoral Changes) Order 2004 which provides for elections by thirds.

An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact on business or the private or voluntary sector is foreseen.
