The Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) (England, Wales and Scotland) Regulations 2014

In accordance with section 31(3) of that Act the Secretary of State has consulted with the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs.

Citation, commencement and extent

• (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) (England, Wales and Scotland) Regulations 2014 and come into force on 24th June 2014.

• (2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales and Scotland.

Amendments to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001

The Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001[^f00002] are amended as follows.

In paragraph 1(a) of Schedule 1 (which specifies controlled drugs subject to the requirements of regulations 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 23, 26 and 27) after “9-(Hydroxymethyl)-6, 6-dimethyl-3-(2-methyloctan-2-yl)-6a, 7, 10, 10a-tetrahydrobenzo[c]chromen-1-ol” insert—

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 in order to add khat to Schedule 1 of those regulations. The schedule in which a controlled drug is placed primarily affects the extent to which the drug can be lawfully imported, exported, produced, supplied or possessed and dictates the record keeping, labelling and destruction requirements in relation to that drug.
