The Welfare Reform Act 2009 (Commencement No. 10) Order 2016

Made: 12th September 2016

In accordance with section 61(5) of that Act, the Secretary of State has consulted the Registrar General for England and Wales before making this Order.

Citation

This Order may be cited as the Welfare Reform Act 2009 (Commencement No. 10) Order 2016.

Appointed day

2

19th September 2016 is the day appointed for the following provisions of the Welfare Reform Act 2009 to come into force—

• (a) section 56 (registration of births) in so far as it relates to the entries in Schedule 6 to that Act set out in paragraph (b); and

• (b) paragraphs 1 and 17 of Schedule 6.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings into force, on 19th September 2016, section 56 (registration of births) of the Welfare Reform Act 2009 (c. 24), in so far as it relates to paragraphs 1 and 17 of Schedule 6 to that Act, and paragraphs 1 and 17 of Schedule 6 to that Act. These insert section 39A into the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953 (c. 20), which makes further provision in relation to the regulations which may be made by the Minister under sections 2B(1), (4), and (6), 2C, 2D, 2E, 10B, 10C, 34A and 38A of that Act (the references to sections 34A and 38A in section 39A are already in force).

Sections 2B(1), (4) and (6), 2C, 2D, 2E, 10B and 10C of the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953 have not yet been brought into force.
