The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 205(5) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995[^f00001], makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Light Dues) (Amendment) Regulations 2017 and come into force on 1st May 2017.

Amendment to the Merchant Shipping (Light Dues) Regulations 1997

In paragraph 3(1A)[^f00002] of Part II (scale of payments) of Schedule 2 to the Merchant Shipping (Light Dues) Regulations 1997[^f00003]—

(a) in paragraph (e)[^f00004], after “2016” insert “and before 1st May 2017”; and

(b) at the end of paragraph (e), insert—

(f) on or after 1st May 2017, 37 and a half pence per ton subject to a maximum charge of £15,000 per voyage

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Merchant Shipping (Light Dues) Regulations 1997 by reducing the rate per ton at which light dues are payable from 38 pence per ton to 37 and a half pence per ton and by making a corresponding downward adjustment (£15,000 instead of £15,200) to the maximum amount for any one voyage by a ship where that voyage ends at a port or place in the United Kingdom on or after 1st May 2017.

An Explanatory Memorandum for this instrument is published alongside these Regulations at www.legislation.gov.uk. No impact assessment has been prepared for this instrument which, because it delivers a reduction in the rate of light dues, will reduce the costs of businesses and the voluntary sector.
