The Financial Assistance for Environmental Purposes (England) Order 2020

The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 153(4) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990[^f00001].
Citation, commencement, extent and application

This Order—
- (a) may be cited as the Financial Assistance for Environmental Purposes (England) Order 2020;
- (b) comes into force on 30th March 2020; and
- (c) extends to England and Wales.
Amendment of section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990

In section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990[^f00002] (purposes for which financial assistance may be given), after paragraph (nn) insert—
(oo) any scheme, programme or organisation for the purpose of preventing or reducing waste or litter in England, or of promoting resource efficiency in England; (pp) any scheme, programme or organisation for the storage, transport, treatment or disposal of any material or product in England for the purpose of preventing or reducing environmental damage.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE
This Order, which applies in relation to England only, inserts two new entries into section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. These entries extend the list of environmental purposes for which the Secretary of State may, with the consent of the Treasury, give financial assistance.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument, as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sectors is foreseen. The Explanatory Memorandum is available at www.legislation.gov.uk.
