Her Majesty, in exercise of the power conferred upon Her by section 37(2) of the British Nationality Act 1981[^f00001], by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, orders as follows.

Citation and commencement

This Order may be cited as the British Nationality (Maldives) Order 2021 and comes into force on 2nd June 2021.

Amendment of Schedule 3 to the British Nationality Act 1981

In Schedule 3 to the British Nationality Act 1981[^f00002] (countries whose citizens are Commonwealth citizens) after “Malaysia” insert “Maldives”.

Revocation of the British Nationality (Maldives) Order 2017

The British Nationality (Maldives) Order 2017[^f00003] is revoked.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Article 2 of this Order adds Maldives to Schedule 3 to the British Nationality Act 1981. This means that citizens of Maldives will now have the status of Commonwealth citizens.

Article 3 of this Order revokes the British Nationality (Maldives) Order 2017 which removed Maldives from Schedule 3 to the British Nationality Act 1981.

A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sector is foreseen.
