EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order varies the Spring Traps (Approval) (England) Order 2018 (S.I. 2018/1190).

Under section 8 of the Pests Act 1954 (c. 68), it is an offence to use or knowingly permit the use of any spring trap, other than a trap that has been approved by Order, for animals or in circumstances for which it is not approved.

This Order adds types of spring traps to those approved for use in England, namely the Aurotrap, the Quill Trap, the Smart Catch, the Smart Catch Mini, the Smart Pipe Long Life 110, the Smart Pipe Long Life 160, the Smart Pipe Long Life 200, the Smart Pipe Long Life 250, and the Smart Pipe Long Life 300 (article 2(a), 2(b) and article 2(c)).

It also removes the WiseTrap 110, the WiseTrap 160, the WiseTrap 200 and the WiseTrap 250 from the traps approved for use in England (article 2(d)).

An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sectors is foreseen.
