The Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022 (Commencement) Regulations 2023
Made: 19th May 2023
The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the power conferred by section 6(2) of the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022[^f00001].
Citation and extent

- (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022 (Commencement) Regulations 2023.
- (2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Provisions coming into force on 22nd May 2023

Sections 1 to 5 of the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022 come into force on 22nd May 2023.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
EXPLANATORY NOTE
These Regulations bring into force the remaining provisions of the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022 (c. 22) (“the Act”) that did not come into force on the day on which the Act was passed. Those provisions (sections 1 to 5 of the Act) come into force on 22nd May 2023.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sector is foreseen.
